Rare Sailor Susutake Smoked Bamboo Fountain Pen with 21k Naginata Togi Nib.

This Pen is a handmade creation of the Legendary Nib Master Nobuyoshi Nagahara. (A heritage Pen)

Mr Nagahara started working for Sailor Pen Company in 1947. After 64 years of dedicated service Mr Nagahara retired in 2011.

It takes from 100 to 150 years to collect a solid Sustake and it took around 7 months to make one Susutake Fountain Pen.

The Pen has a 24-carat Gold Plaque with the Nobuyoshi Nagahara sign and the word “Pure Gold” in Japanese.

The Nib on this pen and all the other furniture were hand wrought by the Master Craftsman himself.

The Japanese Susutake Smoked Bamboo is one of a kind bamboo that is obtained from the roof timbers of the old tradition Japanese house. The special of the susutake bamboo is the difference in the colour of the bamboo.

The colour of the bamboo was lighter on one side than the other. This is because the Bamboo was formerly used in the roofs of Japanese houses, one side facing towards the house has a dark colour because its exposure to the “Irori” fire that burned within the house, while the other side was always faced outside and has a lighter colour.

Nowadays, it’s very difficult to find a susutake smoked bamboo, even in Japan, because people are not using susutake bamboo to build houses anymore.

The unique and very scarce Sailor Specialty Nibs are inspired by the art of Japanese brush painting and are part of Sailor’s exclusive Bespoke collection.

The Naginata Togi Nib:

This Nib provides variable line width depending on the angle of the pen to the paper - the lower the angle, the broader the line.

The Nib is made from 21k Gold and is hand turned

The Nib gives very good ink flow.

This is one of the supreme writing instruments produced by the Great Man himself (Mr Nagahara Snr)
