* Celluloid: plant material made from the gelation of cellulose nitrate and camphor. Invented by the Englishman Alexander Parkes in 1865. It is considered the very first artificial plastic material whose origin dates back to 1856. Its composition was gradually improved to make it finally easy to shape and produce. Alexander Parkes and Daniel Spill had already studied camphor in their first experiments, but it was the Hyatt brothers who recognized its true usefulness and its role in the creation of celluloid from cellulose nitrate. Isaiah Hyatt marketed this new product under the name Celluloid in 1872
